How We're Different
Pulling from 40+ years of Bill Bryan’s leadership research and leader development success with education systems and Fortune 500 enterprises, our team has created a behavioral-science-based approach to improve education search, leader evaluation, and strategic planning through the use of data and increased objectivity. From bias reduction to increased buy-in, these methods are the most effective available and are tailored to education systems.
The Bryan Group has perfected a more sophisticated, research-backed solution to gathering information from leaders and stakeholders: the Guided Storytelling Interview (GSI). The GSI is considered the gold standard for qualitative research and competence assessment and no other firm has this technology.
We always recommend involving students in district processes and happily support this aspect of the project with coaching, if the district is interested. We transfer our technology to anyone involved in our projects to build district capacity such that participants can use these skills in other contexts and applications.
Our Approach & Experience
The Bryan Group’s unique and highly effective competency and behavioral science approach to search allows us to successfully conduct searches in any sector and with any type of organization. Since its inception in 2019, The Bryan Group has focused on education with the mission of improving leadership and organization capacity building in education and ultimately resulting in enhanced student experience and performance.
In the business sector, Dr. Bill Bryan has provided competency-based talent and performance management services for a dozen Fortune 500 companies that addressed all levels of management. This included the provision of managerial and executive coaching as well. In the majority of cases, talent management capacity building was the focus of his large organization work, which includes the training of company HR and OD staff on how to create competency-based performance criteria for hiring, development, performance appraisal, and succession planning. He also trained HR and Organization Development staff on how to assess leaders for competence using the Guided Storytelling Interview methodology, and how to create effective leader coaching and development programs at all levels.

High Praise from Our Clients
-
There is no one with a more in depth understanding of education leadership development needs than Bill. His training programs were huge eye openers for leaders in our and surrounding districts. His ability to motivate leaders to up their game is unparalleled. In addition, my school was able to employ his “initiative and program mapping” process to create a focus on what was most important, and ensured that our energies were targeted on those activities that were most influential in improving student performance.

The Bryan Group staff is highly skilled in executing the search process, including building an effective working relationship with search committees and boards. They are very adept at successfully navigating the political challenges that often accompany the search process. This is why we use them to conduct all our superintendent searches.
– Barrett M. Christina, former Attorney and Executive Director of the NH School Boards Association

One of the things that struck me was the recognition by search committee members of the value of the process he taught us that could be used beyond the immediate search process, e.g., making better hires in the district, and for those working in the community, making improvements in hiring for their businesses.
– Keith Pfeifer, Ed.D., former superintendent of the Monadnock, NH School District

Bill helped us significantly improve student performance through many different organization capacity building processes. He also provided us with competency-based hiring training, to include the use of the Guided Storytelling Interview methodology which we now employ with the hire of every leader, as well as teachers. He is the ultimate partner for any district or school redesign process. Change leadership is his forte.
